List of ports is published in Synology documentation. If you can’t/don’t want to/or for any other valid or otherwise reason use vpn - then open Drive ports on the server and firewall access to them to limit who can connect.connecting with the local ip or quikconnect works. Then you have direct connection and all will just work. The only problem is when I setup synology drive client on windows, the domain name gives 'connection failed please check the network settings' (after like 5 seconds when pressing the next button ) this happens when I am on my internal network and also on the external network. Let your clients dial in into your diskstation with always-on split-tunnel SSL VPN. Establish VPN between your clients and server. This will obviously let you use its connection facilitation capabilities but avoid using relay. Disable QuickConnect relay, leave QuickConnect service itself enabled. Because traffic is expensive it will not be fast. If direct connection is not possible QuickConnect relay will be used - both server and client will connect to synology manager amazon ec2 instance and it will relay traffic.Similarly If you have VPN - then direct connection would be possible and used. For example if server is behind firewall but the client is not QuickConnect will have server connect to client to establish the link, or if either of them can control firewall such with uPNP it will instruct either entity to open required ports on the other side to make connection happen. You will be prompted to refresh the page. After the package has been installed, select Open. You will be informed that there are dependencies that must be installed. Open the Package Center and install the Synology Driver Server application.
